Taught by Donna Ebert

Donna Ebert will be teaching a beautiful Hydrangea Painting in this one-day class. This is a wonderful opportunity for artists of all skill levels to learn decorative painting techniques in a relaxed and encouraging environment.

You do not need to bring any supplies to class. Donna will provide all paint colors, complete written instructions to take home, transfer paper, and a painting board approximately 28” x 10.5”. Participants are welcome to bring their favorite paintbrushes if they wish, or even paint on their own surface instead of the provided board. Be sure to wear comfortable old clothes that you won’t mind getting paint on.

The class will begin with preparing the surface by base coating the board and applying the pattern. While the paint dries, Donna will demonstrate brush techniques and allow students time to practice creating leaves and flowers before beginning their final painting. Her goal is to help everyone feel confident and comfortable with the process before painting on the project board.

Throughout the class, Donna will guide students step-by-step through the entire painting process, including:
• How to properly transfer a pattern
• What details should — and should not — be transferred
• Why painting the larger shapes first is important
• Creating dimensional leaves and hydrangea flowers
• Adding ribbon details and finishing touches
• Using transparent color washes (glazing) to create shadows and depth

Students will also learn the benefits of using different brushes and how the brushstrokes and techniques taught in class can be applied to future paintings.

Most importantly, Donna encourages everyone to relax, enjoy the creative process, and remember that painting takes patience, practice, and perseverance. Once these techniques are mastered, the possibilities are endless!
